Man Killed at Steel Mill

|

A 53-year-old contractor was found dead at the bottom of an elevator shaft Sunday night. He was working on the inside of an elevator at ArcelorMittal's Burns Harbor plant. The man was working for Kone Elevators and Escalators as an independent contractor. He did not respond to his radio and for unknown reasons authorities were not called immediately. The Porter County Coroner arrived approximately 60 to 90 minutes after the man's death at around 9:30 p.m. The Coroner stated that the autopsy results indicated the cause of death to be from blunt force trauma to the man's extremities abdomen, and chest consistent with a fall.

The event of losing a loved one is tragic and can be devastating to know the death was caused by the negligence of another individual. Family and friends who lose a loved one should be allowed plenty of time and energy to grieve and not have to deal with the stress associated with financial details. Medical bills, funeral expenses, and lost wages can create an economic burden on the victim's family and friends. There is no amount of money that can ease the pain of losing a loved one. Contacting a wrongful death attorney can alleviate the stress of a financial burden by recovering compensation for the accident.
