What was supposed to be a relaxing getaway has suddenly turned into a nightmare for one family from Delaware. Furthermore, while the Esmond family was vacationing at the Sirenusa resort in St. John Vigin Islands, they become suddenly ill. Likewise, the family is suspected to have been exposed to high levels of a highly toxic pesticide. The incident has been reported to the EPA, and the pesticide in question is methyl bromide, which had just been used near the same villa the family was renting.
Exposure to the toxic pesticide can cause many serious health problems including respiratory damage and injury to the central nervous system. The United States has restricted use of the pesticide due to its toxicity, and is not to be used anywhere inside.Three of the family members are now fighting for their lives. The two teenage boys, ages 14 and 16 are still in critical condition at a Philadelphia hospital. The mother, Theresa Devine, has been treated and released from a hospital, but is now undergoing occupational therapy.
