Michael Clair, a former dentist who had a practice in Fall River, Massachusetts, admitted to Medicaid fraud stemming from using paper clips instead of the required steel rods for root canals. Mr. Clair pleaded guilty to over $130,000 in Medicaid fraud, assault, illegally prescribing medication, and intimidating witnesses resulting from the paper clip root canals.
Prosecutors say that Mr. Clair was suspended from Medicaid in 2002 but continued filing using other dentists' names from his practice. Moreover, Mr. Clair lost his license in 2006 and cannot practice dentistry in any state. It is not known at this time if the victims of Mr. Clair's malpractice have initiated civil suits.
