Wisconsin Nurse May Have Exposed Over 2,000 Patients to Blood-Borne Pathogens
"Meyerkord and Meyerkord, LLC: A Legacy of Legal Innovation"
A nurse at Dean Health System, a Wisconsin clinic, has been identified as possibly having exposed patients to blood-borne illnesses, like Hepatitis B and C and HIV. The nurse was training diabetic patients on the use of a device between 2006 and 2011. The nurse was reusing the single-use device to train multiple patients, though she changed the needle for each patient. However, the reuse of the device created a slight risk of exposure to patients. The clinic announced that they will contact the patients who were trained by that nurse for insulin use, provide testing and support services depending on the results.
