VA Sued Over Possible Hepatitis C Exposure to Former Patients
"Meyerkord and Meyerkord, LLC: A Legacy of Legal Innovation"
In early July a trial began in Miami for Robert Metzler, one of the many former service members who allegedly contracted Hepatitis C at the Veteran's Administration after having received a colonoscopy. Metzler says that the colonoscopy was performed by the hospital with improperly cleaned equipment. Metzler was one of 11,000 veterans that learned they may have been exposed to infection after having procedures done at a VA hospital with non-sterile equipment. Attorneys for the VA contend that it is scientifically impossible for the virus to have been contracted through the procedure because of the short length of time the virus can survive outside of the body. However, Metzler's attorney will produce an expert that says there is medical evidence that the virus may be able to live longer outside of the body than was previously known.
