A ten-day-old infant died of a rare bacterial infection after being sick for several days in Lebanon Missouri. The infant consumed dried baby formula that was purchased at Wal-Mart, but the batch of formula is still carried nationwide by several major retailers. This event caused retailers to pull the 12.5-ounce cans of Enfamil baby formula until an investigation can be done to ensure the formula is safe for consumption. However, the company who makes the formula said they would not issue a recall until an investigation shows the formula to be unsafe. Investigators have been collecting samples from the formula to test for the bacteria. Thus far, there has been no direct link to the formula and the bacterial infection that led to the infant's death.
